Forest City 2012 Corporate Social Responsibility Report

At Forest City Enterprises, everything we do is Built On Purpose. As the title of our first Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) report, this phrase reinforces what we do and, more importantly, how we do it.

What we do is own, develop and manage real estate with the intention of bettering lives, businesses and communities which, in turn, creates and increases shareholder value. How we do it is by adhering to our core values, hiring and retaining great people, identifying and nurturing strategic partnerships, volunteering and contributing to our communities and respecting and protecting the environment.

Built On Purpose not only describes Forest City’s great leadership, honest partnerships and our commitment to our people and the planet, it also tells another important part of our story.

Each of our projects and properties were strategically designed with a disciplined plan and genuine purpose for families, organizations, visitors and communities throughout the United States.

Throughout this report, you will learn about Forest City and our commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). Above all, you will learn that here, at our company, Built On Purpose means everything. It reflects the type of company Forest City really is.

Jon Ratner

Publishing our first Corporate Social Responsibility report allows Forest City to articulate to the world what it has always known internally—we do the right thing not just because we feel obligated as a corporate citizen to do so, but because we know that by being genuine and forthright, we will exceed our shareholder and stakeholder expectations and, in turn, create value. I am proud to introduce, Built On Purpose, the first of many communications that demonstrate our commitment to CSR.
